Three are three Main Types of RTW Checks
1. Manual Document Check
- Original documents to be reviewed in person by employer.
- Acceptable documents include:
- UK passport
- Biometric Residence Permit
- Birth certificate (with proof of National Insurance
2. Online RTW Check (via Home Office service)
- Mandatory for those with a Biometric Residence Card, Biometric Residence Permit, or status under the EU Settlement Scheme or Points-Based Immigration System.
- Use: https://www.gov.uk/view-right-to-work
- The candidate provides a share code, and the employer views their status online.
- A clear PDF or screenshot must be retained with the date of the check.
3. Identity Service Provider (IDSP) Check – for British and Irish citizens
- Only available for remote checks using digital identity verification.
- Must be done via a certified IDSP and only for those with valid UK/Irish passports.
- Employer still holds responsibility for ensuring the check was completed correctly.

Imposter Checks
Veremark also offers an imposter check feature designed to assist clients in meeting their obligations regarding UK right to work checks, whether conducted online or through an IDSP. This feature allows clients to maintain an auditable record of when an imposter check, which verifies the digital identity against a face-to-face verification, has taken place, including details of who conducted the verification.
