What happens when I upload a document for my check?
How the automatic document check works, what the messages mean, and what to do if you see one.
What is the document check?
When you upload a document to the Veremark form, an automatic check reads it and compares the key details against what you entered, such as your name and date of birth. It runs as soon as you upload, usually within a few seconds, so anything that needs a second look is flagged straight away rather than days later in manual review.

Will it stop me from submitting?
No. You're never blocked. Whatever the check says, you can always submit the document and continue with your verification. If a message appears, it will include a reminder that you may still submit and carry on.
The check doesn't approve or reject anything. A person from the review team looks at every check afterwards and makes the final decision.

What do the messages mean?

Most uploads show no message at all. When you do see a note, here's what it's telling you:
- “Checking document…” – the check is running. Wait a moment; the Next button waits with you until it finishes.
- Uploaded successfully – nothing to do. Your document looks fine and you can carry on.
- Some details don't match – the note lists what differs, for example a name or date of birth. If you uploaded the wrong file, re-upload the right one. If the document is correct, submit and continue; a reviewer will check it.
- Re-upload suggested – the document may be the wrong type or hard to read clearly. Check it's the right document and the photo or scan is clear, then upload again.

It says my details don't match, but they're correct. What should I do?
Submit and continue. The check is tolerant of small differences, like Jon versus Jonathan or “St” versus “Street”, and is more likely to flag bigger ones. Because it uses judgement rather than fixed rules, it can occasionally get edge cases wrong, for example a name written in another script or a different reference number on the back of a card. Those cases are left for a person to judge, and a human always makes the final decision.
Why didn't it just accept my document?
The check is a first-pass aid, not a decision. Its job is to catch obvious mismatches at the point of upload so they can be sorted early. It doesn't decide whether your document is accepted; that's still done by a member of the review team.
Is my document being checked for fraud?
Not exactly. The check flags visible signs of tampering and lowers its confidence if it sees any, but it doesn't perform authenticity or anti-spoofing verification. It isn't making an accusation, and a person always reviews the result.
Tips for a smooth upload
- Upload the document type the form is asking for.
- Make sure the whole document is visible, with all corners in frame.
- Use a clear, well-lit photo or scan so the text can be read.
- Check the document is in date where that applies, such as a passport or driving licence.
